  • Following the consultation some clear messages came out which have been picked up in the final version of the Plan:

    • The views of children and young people in the care systems should be acted upon more
    • Put more emphasis on matching children and young people with a foster carer who can look after them on a long term basis
    • Better support the transition from the care system to leaving care
    • Young people want more affordable leisure and sports activities
    • More universal services and activities open and accessible to children with disabilities
    • Pull away from the typically stuffy teaching that is usually associated with sex and relationships education– and make contraception more readily available
    • Provide further support for parents and families, particularly from the voluntary  and community sector, when issues get difficult to deal with alone and before they escalate
    • In preparing young people for the world of work there should also be more of a focus on practical development
    • More support for children from poorer backgrounds to do better at school
    • Tackle poor school attendance using discipline and incentives

    Overview

The Children and Young Peoples Plan 2010/11 will help agencies develop and target their services for children and young people over the coming year. This consultation document gives a narrative about each of the six goals for the Children and Young People's Plan 2010/11 and the high level actions for each of the goals.

    Why your views matter

The key task for this second phase of consultation is to build up the detailed action plan that lies beneath each goal's high level actions, drawing on ideas coming out of the first phase of consultation. ation.
