Transforming your journey: Belmont Station to the London Cancer Hub

Closed 1 Sep 2024

Opened 19 Jul 2024

Overview

The London Cancer Hub in Belmont is currently under development and is set to become the world’s leading district for cancer research and treatment bringing around 13,000 new jobs in health, science, education and construction to the area.

We secured a £14.1 million grant from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to transform public transport to the London Cancer Hub. The Council is now working with Network Rail to double train services from two to four trains an hour, with additional direct services between Belmont and London Victoria.

From December 2023 to September 2024, the Council carried out a series of public consultations and engagement exercises on walking and cycling between Belmont Station and the London Cancer Hub.

Consultation overview

We shared our updated proposals on how to improve the walking/cycling route in summer 2024. Members of the public had the opportunity to comment through an online questionnaire and several drop in events held at the Innovation Gateway and Harris Academy, both at the London Cancer Hub.

We received 108 completed online questionnaires and feedback from 26 visitors during this latest engagement, with generally positive feedback from those who responded.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our recent public consultation on improving the walking & cycling routes from Belmont Station to the London Cancer Hub. What happens next

Key consultation findings and next steps

  • Your feedback indicated a clear preference for improvements to the street scene through changes to: the paving materials; zebra crossing location; planting; street light design and overall scheme design.
  • The results from the consultation will feed into the Council’s final proposals and will reflect residents’ preferences.
  • The Council will then appoint a contractor to undertake the works. Construction is anticipated to start in early 2025, with the entire programme of improvements expected to be completed by March 2026.
