Overview

We want to hear your feedback on our proposed designs for cycling and walking routes between Belmont Station and the London Cancer Hub (LCH).

Our proposals to improve this space includes:

  • Planting shrubs and flowers in the area 
  • Installing new lighting 
  • Resurfacing and expanding paths
  • Installing benches
  • Removing phone boxes and other unused items
  • Installing signage/wayfinding 

Here are some examples of our vision and design for the area leading to/from Belmont Station. We will ask questions based on these design elements and more, in this consultation.

Background

Sutton Council have secured a £14.1 million cash injection from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to transform public transport to The London Cancer Hub (LCH) in Belmont. The London Cancer Hub is currently under development and is set to become the world’s leading district for cancer research and treatment bringing 13,000 new jobs in health, science, education and construction to the area.

Belmont Station on Railway Approach, Brighton Road, is a ten-minute walking distance from The London Cancer Hub. Currently there are a very limited number of trains, with only two connections every hour, and there is no clear walking or cycling route.

We are working with Network Rail to double train services from two to four trains an hour, with additional direct services between Belmont Station and London Victoria. We are also improving the station with step-free access. We would also like to encourage people to choose more sustainable ways of travelling, such as walking and cycling.

Previous consultations

We consulted on initial ideas in November 2023, following this previous consultation, we have listened to feedback and created these updated designs.

    • Drop in event at the Innovation Gateway: 23 July and 28 August 2024
    • Drop in event at the Harris Academy: 25 July and 30 August 2024
  • Consultation closes: midnight on Sunday 1 September 2024
  • Construction beginning from Autumn 2024

Why your views matter

We are seeking feedback from people working, living and travelling in and around Belmont. Our designs showcase how we would like to improve and develop the space, including seating, flowers, pathways and much more. Therefore we would like to hear from people regularly using these spaces.

There are several ways you can respond to the consultation:

  • Complete the consultation response form in person at the drop-in events
  • Complete the online consultation.
