TR1109-B - School Street: Beddington Gardens and Longacre Place - Bandon Hill, Wood Field and Oak Field Primary Schools

Overview

Sutton Council is committed to making the streets outside our schools safer and healthier for our children.

The proposed pedestrian and cycle zone (School Street) in your area would help make the road safer and calmer for pupils at school start and finish times, reinforcing the principles of ‘school keep clears’ and encouraging more sustainable modes of transport to and from school.

This is a statutory process for Bandon Hill, Wood Field and Oak Field Primary Schools which commences Thursday 8 July 2021 and will conclude 29 July 2021. Full details of the School Street scheme are contained in the attached documents at the bottom of this page.

The School Street will operate between 8.15am and 9.30am and between 2.15pm and 3.30pm on Monday to Friday inclusive. The roads that will be closed during these times are as follows: Beddington Gardens west of its junctions with Boundary Road; Longacre Place. 

All motor vehicles, except permit holders, would be prohibited from entering the School Street pedestrian and cycle zones during their hours of operation. Permits allowing vehicles to enter a School Street would be available to residents and those caring for residents of premises located within or only accessible from the School Street, by application to the Council. Households would be limited to having three such permits at any one time, excluding those for use by carers.

Further exemptions would apply to vehicles of those dropping off or picking up students with special educational needs or disabilities (the details of such vehicles being registered with the school) and emergency service vehicles, school buses, and certain other service and utility vehicles. Any vehicle that is already within the School Street pedestrian and cycle zone before its commencement of operation would be permitted to leave.

What happens next

This statutory process closed on 29 July 2021.

It is anticipated that the implementation of the School Street schemes will commence during August and September with a view to going live at the end of October 2021.
