Sutton Council invited comments on the draft Hackbridge Masterplan earlier this year, which will provide guidance for the future regeneration and growth of Hackbridge. Just over 90% of questionnaire respondents confirmed that they were supportive of the proposed ‘vision to make Hackbridge the UK’s greenest suburb, using the principles of One Planet living’. The following reports provide a summary of the responses received and how we propose to address these.

Overview
Sutton Council is working with the community to turn Hackbridge into the UK’s first truly sustainable suburb. In a major step forward the council has unveiled a masterplan for the area. From 11 February to 25 March 2009 we are seeking your views on these detailed proposals for the future of Hackbridge. We have an ambitious vision to make Hackbridge the greenest place to live in the UK. We want to do this by working with residents, businesses and others to promote One Planet Living – a lifestyle where we can enjoy an excellent way of life while using only our fair share of the earth’s resources. We have talked to people in Hackbridge over the last 18 months and used what you told us to write a draft masterplan using the principles of Sustainability and One Planet Living. The detailed plans include proposals for new, sustainable homes, more shops and community facilities, jobs and open spaces.
Why your views matter
These proposals will shape the Hackbridge of the future, so make sure you tell the council what you think during the consultation period, 11 February to 25 March 2009. When the consultation is over we will use what you said to help us finalise the plan and contribute to Sutton’s evolving Local Development Framework.
What happens next
Once the consultation period has finished, we will analyse the responses and your views will help us move towards developing a final version of the Hackbridge Masterplan. The Masterplan will be used as the basis for the preparation of the Hackbridge Supplementary Planning Document.
