Gander Green Lane area West Sutton

Closes 8 Dec 2024

Opened 7 Nov 2024

Overview

Sutton Council is committed to making roads safer in the borough.

Reducing the speed limit to 20mph helps improve safety on our roads as it reduces the number and severity of traffic accidents. Motor vehicles travelling at lower speeds provide a safer environment for all road users - especially people on foot or on bicycles - giving people more choice in how they travel.

We are inviting you to give your feedback on a proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit in the Gander Green Lane West Sutton area.

The proposal

Gander Green Lane area proposed 20mph speed limit

The proposal is to reduce the speed limit to 20mph on Alberta Avenue, Antrobus Close, Ashton Close, Bourne Way, Carlisle Road, Dale Road, Denbigh Close, Elizabeth Close, Elmbrook Road, Ennerdale Close, Fairholme Road, Frederick Close, Frederick Gardens, Frederick Road, Gander Green Lane (A232 to A217),Heron Close (part), Hilldale Road, Jeffs Road, Osprey Close (part), Quarry Park Road, Quarry Rise, Revell Road, Saltash Close, Sandpiper Road, Shearwater Road, Silverdale Close, St Albans Road, Sunningdale Road, Teal Place, Westfield Close, Westfield Road.

The aim of the 20mph proposal would be to provide a safer environment for all road users and make it easier for people to walk and cycle in the area if they wish to. It would also reduce the risk and severity of traffic accidents, as well as improve local air quality.

As you may be aware many of the roads which border the area already have 20mph speed limits in place, including Transport for London (TfL) introducing a lower speed limit on the Cheam Road (A232). It is considered that introducing a 20mph speed limit in the area would provide consistency in driving speeds and reduce any confusion over what the speed limit is. It would also deter drivers who don’t live in the area from using these roads to avoid those roads with lower speed limits.
