Robin Hood Lane – Collingwood Road Area - Proposed Road Safety Improvements
Overview
Robin Hood Lane – Collingwood Road is a route for pedestrians attending schools and community centres in the area. The traffic flow on the route is busy and continuous. The route is part of the road network that provides access to Sutton town centre. Ward councillors, residents and school parents have raised concerns about road safety on this route.
The proposals include:
- zebra crossings,
- new islands,
- enlarging of an existing island and
- introducing a 20mph speed limit to form part of the existing 20mph zone in Collingwood Road running between Bushy Road and the A217.
The aim of the proposals is to reduce the risk of personal injury accidents, provide a safer environment for vulnerable road users and encourage walking and cycling in the area. The proposed zebra crossings will result in loss of parking (for details please see plans below).
Proposed island in West Street junction with Robin Hood Lane
Proposing a pedestrian island in West Street at its junction with Robin Hood Lane. This will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating for parents in children attending school in the area. (For details please see the plan above).

This will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating for parents in children attending school in the area. The crossing will result in the loss of 10m of resident parking bays. (For details please see the plan above).
Proposed enlarging the existing island and re-alignment of kerbs in Robin Hood Lane junction with Collingwood Road)
Proposing to enlarge existing island in Robin Hood Lane junction with Collingwood Road and widening the footway to protect pedestrians crossing the road and reduce traffic speed of traffic entering the road and therefore. This will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating for parents in children attending school in the area. Proposed zebra crossing outside property No.6 & 8 Collingwood Road
Proposing a new zebra crossing in Collingwood Road to help pedestrians to cross the road safely. This will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating for parents in children attending school in the area. The proposal will result in the loss of two shared parking bays and revenue for the council. (For details please see the plan above).
Proposed zebra crossing outside property No.49 Collingwood Road
The crossing will assist pedestrians to cross safely. It will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating for parents in children attending school in the area. The proposal will result in the loss of 23m of resident parking bays. (For details please see the plan above).
Enlarging the existing island in Crown Road junction with Collingwood Road and Beauchamp Road (existing mini-roundabout)
The enlarged island is to protect pedestrians crossing Crown Road at the existing mini-roundabout. This will reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating for parents in children attending school in the area. Proposed 20mph speed limit zone
The proposed speed limit zone is to reduce traffic speed and provide a safe environment for vulnerable road users, reduce traffic noise, reduce the risk of personal injury accidents and severity of accidents.
Why your views matter
This is an informal consultation, we would like your feedback on the proposed measures by 12 September 2021. While it will not be possible to reply to you individually, all comments will be taken into account. At the end of this consultation period, officers will consider all responses received and a summary of the responses will be presented to the local ward councillors and you will be notified of the outcome of agreeing to the proposals.
Your feedback is essential to this consultation as it will enable us to continue to improve the scheme before we start the detailed design process.
