Closed 3 Mar 2024

Opened 2 Feb 2024

Overview

Sutton Council is committed to making roads safer in the borough and giving people more choice in how they travel. We want to improve safety on the roads to reduce the number and severity of accidents, to make it easier for people to walk or cycle and to improve air quality.

People have previously told us about traffic issues in the North Street area and we have used this feedback to develop proposals to address these issues.

We are inviting you to give feedback on a proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit in the North Street area of Carshalton as shown on the plan below.

Proposed 20mph plan

The proposal

The proposal is to reduce the speed to 20mph on Denmark Gardens, Denmark Road, Dover Gardens, Gurney Road, Honeywood Walk,Langcroft Close, Mill Close, Mill Lane, North Street, Palmerston Road, Papermill Close, River Gardens, Rochester Road, Shepley Close, Station Road, Strawberry Lane, The Causeway, and part of West Street Lane.

The aim of the 20mph proposal is to improve air quality and reduce the risk and severity of accidents. This would provide a safer environment for all road users and make it easier for people to walk and cycle in the area if they wish to.

We understand that some residents have raised concerns about crossing Mill Lane close to Dorchester Road. This is currently being investigated and we will carry out public engagement on any proposed scheme to address this in the future.

We would like to bring to your attention that there is also a proposed highway scheme in the Wrythe Green Area with speed reducing features and improved pedestrian facilities. There is a live engagement process currently underway on these proposals, which you can view on the following link on Citizenspace:
