Langley Park Road, near the junction with Cedar Road – Proposed pedestrian refuge islands

Closes 16 Mar 2025

Opened 13 Feb 2025

Overview

What is proposed?

Consultation Plan

The scheme proposes to install two pedestrian refuge islands in Langley Park Road - one on either side of the junction with Cedar Road - to assist pedestrians to cross the road at these locations.

The proposed measures have been developed  in response to concerns raised by local residents, parents of children attending schools in the area and local councillors about how difficult it is to cross Langley Park Road close to Cedar Road due the busy traffic at the junction.

The proposed pedestrian refuge islands will impact on 7 existing parking bays, and in order to offset that impact, 6 new parking bays will be provided in the immediate area (approximately 100m away), resulting in an overall loss of one bay in the area. See plan for the locations.

The aim of these proposals is to provide a safer environment for all road users and make it easier for people to walk in the area if they wish to.

Other works in the area

To further improve facilities for pedestrians in the area:

  • We are working to widen the pavement under the railway bridge in Langley Park Road to make it easier for people to use. This is subject to consultation with Network Rail and being able to undertake roadworks near the bridge.
  • Change the speed limit of the 30mph section of Langley Park Road (between A232, Carshalton Road, and the railway bridge) to 20mph.
