Grove Road Area - Proposed 20mph speed limit
Overview
Sutton Council is committed to making roads safer in the borough.
Reducing the speed limit to 20mph helps improve safety on our roads as it reduces the number and severity of traffic accidents. Motor vehicles travelling at lower speeds provide a safer environment for all road users - especially people on foot or on bicycles - giving people more choice in how they travel.
We are inviting you now to give your feedback on a proposal to introduce a 20mph speed limit in the Grove Road area.
The proposal
The proposal is to reduce the speed limit to 20mph on Bridgefield Road, Cecil Road, Derby Road, Grove Road (between Salisbury Avenue and Sutton Park Road), Landseer Road, Rosebery Road, Salisbury Avenue, St James’ Road, Summerville Gardens, Tormead Close and York Road (between Cheam Road and Salisbury Avenue).
The aim of the 20mph proposal would be to reduce the risk and severity of traffic accidents. This would provide a safer environment for all road users in the area and would make it easier and more pleasant for people to walk and cycle if they wish to.
Why your views matter
As this scheme may affect you, please take a few minutes to tell us if you think it would make your local roads safer and improve air quality. You can also tell us about anything that you think could improve the proposal.
We value your feedback. Please note that this consultation is open until midnight on 9 November 2024.
While it will not be possible to reply to you individually, all comments will be taken into account.
At the end of this consultation period, council officers will consider all the responses received. We will consider and give more priority to the responses from residents most impacted by the scheme and then from residents in the wider area. The consultation is not a referendum and the results of the consultation will be considered as part of the overall consideration on whether to proceed with the scheme or not.
The final decision whether to proceed with the scheme will be made with the local councillors, the borough’s Lead Councillor for Environment and Sustainable Transport, and council officers.
Residents in the consultation area will then be notified of the outcome.
