Elgin Road/Clyde Road/Ross Road area - Proposed Highway Scheme 2

Closes 24 Nov 2024

Opened 25 Oct 2024

Overview

Sutton Council wants to improve the borough's streets and public spaces for everyone, making it a better place to live, work, and travel.

Sustainable Transport policy vision

We asked for residents’ views in March 2024 on a proposal to trial some traffic restrictions in the area. The majority of responses showed that residents did not support the proposal, so it was decided to not proceed with the trial.

We then invited residents to an event on 19 August to discuss the results and consider what or whether any further measures could be considered. As a result of that meeting and further discussions with your local councillors, we now want to get your views on a scheme based on more traffic calming in the area.

The proposed measures are -

Proposed road layout plan

  • New pedestrian island in Clyde Road junction with Ross Road (including a short section of double yellow line to ensure large vehicles can turn)
  • One new hump in Ross Parade
  • Two new humps in Clarendon Road
  • Two new humps in Elgin Road
  • One new raised platform (also known as an entry treatment) in Elgin Road junction with Clarendon Road
  • Two new road humps in Clyde Road
  • Two new road humps in St Michaels Road

It is expected that the proposed measures will result in reduced vehicle speeds on roads in the area, lessening the likelihood of accidents and enhancing the local environment. The proposals aim to provide a safer environment for all road users and would make it easier for people to walk and cycle in the area if they wish to.

Why your views matter

As this scheme may affect you, please take a few minutes to tell us if you think it will make your local roads safer and reduce air pollution, and if you can think of anything that could improve it.

The deadline for feedback is midnight on 24 November 2024.

While it will not be possible to reply to you individually, all comments will be taken into account. At the end of this consultation period, council officers will consider all responses received and a summary of the responses will be presented to the local ward councillors. This will help us to understand if any changes need to be made to the proposals.
