Background
Sutton Council is committed to making our borough’s roads safer and giving people more choice in how they travel. We want to improve safety on roads to reduce the number and severity of accidents, to make it easier for people to walk or cycle and to improve air quality.
We have received a request from Seaton House School to improve the crossing facilities outside the school and have had requests from residents in the area to install measures to reduce the speed of traffic in the area. We have used this feedback to develop proposals to address these issues.
We now want your feedback on proposals to introduce a 20mph speed limit in the Chiltern Road area and a new zebra crossing in Banstead Road South, near Seaton House School, as shown on the plan below.

What is proposed?
- Proposed 20mph speed limit in Baron Close, Bassett Close, Bicknoller Close, (Cheviot Close not included as a private road) , Chiltern Road, Clifton Avenue, Cotswold Road, Downs Road, Furzedown Road, Heath Drive, Pelton Avenue, The Causeway, The Gallop, The Highway, The Linkway and Woodbury Drive
- Proposed zebra crossing in Banstead Road South near Seaton House School to help pedestrians to cross the road by giving them priority over motor vehicles.

Why your views matter
As this scheme may affect you, please take a few minutes to tell us if you think it will make your local roads safer and if you can think of anything else that could improve it. Please note that the engagement is open until midnight on 12 January 2025.
While it will not be possible to reply to you individually, all comments will be taken into account. At the end of this consultation period, council officers will consider all responses received and a summary of the responses will be presented to the local ward councillors. Residents in the consultation area will be notified of the outcome of the consultation.
