Collingwood Road/Chaucer Road junction - Proposed improvement of sight lines

Closed 23 Mar 2022

Opened 23 Feb 2022

Overview

The Council has received feedback from members of the public and from ward councillors who are concerned about the lack of visibility and the reduced sight lines* for traffic pulling out of Chaucer Road at the junction with Collingwood Road. In order to address this issue, we are considering making changes to the current road design. These changes would include introducing new hatch markings on each side of Chaucer Road in line with existing residents parking bays in Collingwood Road and moving the existing Give Way signs and road markings forward to improve visibility. This would give motorists pulling out of Chaucer Road greater visibility of cars travelling along Collingwood Road. The proposed improvement scheme would result in loss of the parking bay outside 169/171 to 177/179 Collingwood Road. The reason for the removal of the existing residents parking bay is to avoid collision between drivers pulling out of Chaucer Road and southbound traffic on Collingwood Road.

* ‘Sight line’ means the unobstructed view or ‘line of sight’ drivers have at junctions.

Details of the proposed measures are shown in the diagram below.
