Cycleway between Sutton High Street and Colliers Wood - Proposals in Sutton

Overview

This consultation focuses on measures to improve facilities on the Cycleway route between Grennell Road, from Rosehill Park East, and Sutton High Street, via Lodge Place.

A resident survey undertaken in the Elgin Road / Benhill Wood Road area in June 2017 found:

• 65% of respondents felt there was too much traffic in the area
• 70% of people thought the borough should be doing more to address air quality
• 87% of respondents thought that more should be done to encourage walking and cycling to school

This consultation covers Phase 2 of the Cycleway project. Measures from Phase 1 of the project, which covered the St. Helier area, are currently being implemented.  

Why your views matter

Sutton Council is working in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) and Merton Council on a new Cycleway project running between Sutton High Street and Colliers Wood.

This is an informal public consultation to:

• Gather feedback on a proposed 20mph speed limit

• Find out ideas and suggestions on how best to reduce non local through-traffic cutting through the area

This is a unique opportunity where residents in the area can benefit from TfL funding to improve streets and roads.The proposals align with Sutton Council’s ambitious plans to encourage more walking and cycling in the borough, helping people to enjoy a cleaner and healthier environment.

We are also holding a number of drop in sessions where Council staff will be on hand to answer questions and listen to any suggestions or ideas you may have:

• Tuesday 3rd March, 12 noon – 2.30pm,   Salvation Army Hall, Benhill Avenue

• Tuesday 3rd March, 5pm – 7.30pm, All Saints Benhilton C of E Primary School, All Saints Road   

• Wednesday 4th March, 5pm - 7.30pm,   Salvation Army Hall, Benhill Avenue

What happens next

We will discuss the findings of the consultation and engagement sessions with your local ward councillors before agreeing the next steps. Residents affected by any measures will be notified by another letter.
