Overview

Sutton Council is consulting local residents and stakeholders on its draft Sustainable Transport Strategy and would like to hear your views.

The strategy sets out how the council, working with transport operators and stakeholders, will make it easier for people to travel around the borough and beyond by sustainable transport i.e. walking, cycling and public transport. It also aims to reduce the need to travel and address the environmental problems caused by excessive traffic levels and car use.

In common with other London boroughs, Sutton is facing a growing population and this is placing increasing pressure on the transport system, both public transport and the road network. Journey patterns are changing, with many people travelling further for work, education, healthcare and leisure. At the same time a lot of journeys are local. We need to ensure that as many of these journeys as possible are made by sustainable transport by improving public transport and conditions for walking and cycling.
