We asked

We asked what residents' priorities were for how to spend the Neighbourhood Fund to improve community infrastructure.

You said

You indicated priorities, voted on council-proposed projects and gave your own suggestions for improvements to fund.

We did

We are using the feedback to make a list of projects recommended for funding approval. We are also reporting suggested improvements to service departments.

Overview

What is the Neighbourhood Fund?

When developers create new housing, flats or retail space in Sutton they pay a levy to the Council. This money is to improve infrastructure within the borough, with a portion of this used specifically to improve local areas in consultation with residents, in Sutton we call this the Neighbourhood Fund. Neighbourhood Fund Projects should help address the demands which development can place on local areas.

This funding is not to be confused with Section 106 obligations which also come from new developments and are much more prescriptive in their use.

What can we spend the Neighbourhood Fund on?

Projects might include:

  • The renovation of a community centre
  • Planting of street trees
  • Installation of new play equipment

Projects must involve improving infrastructure which benefits the local community.

Projects should also support Ambitious for Sutton priorities: Being Active, Making Informed Choices, Living Well Independently and Keeping People Safe.

What can’t we spend the Neighbourhood Fund on?

As the fund is to address the demands of development this places a restriction on how we can spend it. Unfortunately, we will not be allocating funding to community programmes or events (e.g. homework clubs, fitness events, etc.).

Why your views matter

We want to know what you would like to see improved in your area. Possibly a new outdoor gym or renovation of a community centre?

We want to hear your ideas on potential project/initiatives which we will consider for funding.

We encourage charitable and community organisations to come forward and submit ideas on projects they believe will improve their local area. We are also keen to hear about improvements you think the Council could carry out.

We will then use this information to establish our spending priorities for the borough.

What happens next

We will develop the priorities and project ideas from this consultation into a spending priorities list. This list will be used to inform Ward Councillors and Senior Management when deciding which projects to allocate Neighbourhood Fund money.
