We asked

We asked relevant statutory bodies, transport organisations, local interests and residents groups and individuals for their comments on the draft Local Implementation Plan, in particular whether they agreed with the priorities identified and the local schemes to achieve them.

You said

There was a broad cross-section of support for the various schemes in the draft Local Implementation Plan and requests for more on cycling and walking.

We did

We provided greater clarity on cycling and walking. The revised draft was approved by the Mayor of London and has now been published. It can be found at https://www.sutton.gov.uk/info/200583/travel_and_transport/1540/transport_plans

Overview

The council is undertaking a public consultation on its draft third Local Implementation Plan (LIP). This is a statutory document that outlines how Sutton will contribute to meeting the outcomes and objectives in the new Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy, published earlier this year. It also outlines key proposals for transport schemes in the borough for the next three years (to 2021) and longer term ambitions to 2041.

What is the LIP?

The LIP is the overarching transport plan for Sutton, and draws together the council’s various strategies and plans to explain how the council will contribute to the Mayor’s Transport Strategy outcomes at borough level. This is the third LIP and will replace LIP2 which was published in 2011. You can view the draft below.

The LIP sets out the strategic and local transport objectives for the borough to 2041, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced in Sutton to deliver these objectives. It also sets out an investment programme for the three years from 2018-2021 listing the transport schemes that the council intends to implement over this period, as well as outlining other schemes that the council will implement as funding permits in the future.

The LIP is a statutory document under the Greater London Authority Act 1999 and all London boroughs are required to produce one as directed by the Mayor, who will also approve the plan before it comes into effect on 1 April 2019.

Why your views matter

The council is seeking the views of relevant statutory bodies, transport organisations, local interests and residents groups, as well as individuals. We would therefore welcome your comments on the draft LIP, in particular whether you agree with the priorities we have identified and the local schemes to achieve them.

Please note: Transport for London are consulting on proposals for the Sutton Link, referred to as Tramlink within the LIP document, at the same time as this consultation is taking place. To view the Sutton Link consultation and have your say please click here.
