We asked

In August 2019 the draft strategy was published for an 8-week public consultation. Nearly 300 people responded to this consultation. Community Action Sutton and their partner organisations undertook face to face activities to engage with people who might not have completed the online survey. They spoke to 590 people.

The strategy was too long, contained too much jargon and the vision needed to be more measurable. We also received lots of comments and questions about different sections of the strategy.

We did

We made the strategy shorter, removed the jargon and introduced new chapter headings. We also published a series of FAQ documents on the website to answer commonly asked questions. These are available at https://www.sutton.gov.uk/info/200453/parks_trees_and_open_spaces/1137/environmental_sustainability/8

Overview

Earlier this year we asked residents how we could work together to help make the borough a more sustainable place to live, work and visit.  The survey asked which issues were important to local people and these findings were then used to write the ‘Draft Sustainability Strategy'.

The draft strategy covers areas which have a direct impact on the borough’s sustainability. These include improving air quality, reducing energy use, having a greener borough, creating a circular economy and adapting to climate change. The purpose of this consultation is to ask your views on the draft strategy, specifically its vision, targets and the actions the local authority, organisations it works with, residents and businesses will implement to achieve the targets.

Whilst we would welcome your views on the entire strategy, if you have a strong interest in a specific area, and wish only to answer these questions, this is fine.

Following the consultation, we will use the results to improve the strategy before publishing the final version in April 2019.
