Sherwood Park School - Proposed temporary expansion of the school site
Overview
To meet the need for additional special school places at Sherwood Park school, the governing body seeks to temporarily open an additional satellite within the Carew Manor site located on Church Road, Wallington, Surrey, SM6 7NH. Sherwood Park school currently has capacity for 180 students and this proposed expansion would increase the total school capacity to 204 students from September 2025. These additional 24 places created would support secondary age young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs.
For this to happen minor capital works will be needed. The proposed expansion site is currently established as a special school provision; however the spaces the school will utilise will need to be refurbished and furnished to support the cohort of learners the school will be supporting.
Funding for this project has been made available through the government High Needs Provision Capital Grant allocation. The places created for the young people would be available for at least 7 years, to ensure that those placed within this provision will have the consistency of a secondary phase school place.
Pending a decision from the Department for Education regarding the opening of Angel Hill Free School, it may be necessary in the future to further expand the school onto this site, should sufficient places not be provided through the planned new Free School.
