Children's Centres Consultation

Closed 12 Dec 2023

Opened 19 Sep 2023

Overview

Our children’s centres (Startwell) support children to have the best start in life. Since the pandemic we have changed the way that our children's centres operate and have brought some services out of the buildings and into the community, at places such as local libraries and community centres. This has helped to better support our families and has resulted in a 30% increase in the number of sessions held weekly by the service.  Following a survey of families using children's centres in Sutton, 93% said that services were good or outstanding.

Proposal
The Council is proposing to return three underused buildings - Muschamp children’s centre, Victor Seymour Children’s Centre and Beddington Park Children’s Centre - back to the schools where they are based. This will allow the schools the space to support children to be ready for school.

By returning the underused buildings, this will enable the Council to provide services that will help young children aged 0-5 years at relevant community locations more frequently used by families. The proposal will not lead to a reduction in the quality or quantity of the services provided but will deliver greater benefits to families, helping our young people to start well in life.

We are consulting on these proposals from 19 September to 11 December 2023.
